… The Dragon, the most important symbol of power in China brings good luck for people in East Asian culture! James was inspired by the Chinese zodiac sign of his son « The dragon » which is fascinating. This artwork is very personal because the model is James’s baby boy. The painting session is also very special because James paints in his open air studio, in the middle of the woods, in a wild forest called « Les Bois d’Arax ». Indeed, for James, the forest is like the last refuge in a highly urbanized world where there is no mystery anymore. Next to his Dordogne Valley studio, James Arax creates places in nature to paint large formats. He looks for places in nature that are completely wild and surrounded by trees and vegetation. This is how this stunning painting was made.

James plays with the white of the canvas, golden pigments creating new spaces, lights and shapes on the canvas. He uses his special technique to create this movement and strength of the Dragon’s shape.
