… This canvas shines and changes with the light and the weather outside because of its silver pigments. You have more than one impression in front of the canvas, depending on the weather and the moment of the day. This painting evokes the special lights in the City of Doges and the reflexions of the light in the Grand Canal of Venice.
For James the signs should not be too defined to convey the emotion. Here we can imagine both eyes, a venetian mask, eyelashes, eyebrows without one of these elements dominating the other. James put a shape that reminds venitian masks, inspired by Scaramuccia from the Commedia dell’Arte.
His model is a succesfull Art gallerist in Paris and Venice. While he was painting, James was listing to her stories about Venice, the marvellous Venetian art foundations.
The artistic result is vibrant and elegant.
