Very poetic title of James! This painting is one of the 4 medium size paintings of this series. Full of gold in the typical OpenFlow style of James. Playing with the white of canvas with subtle purple.

It is inspired by the corset in fashion. The white form on the canvas represents the body.  It seems covered in molten gold. James expresses here the pressure of the corset around the waist like a burn on the skin. But also the beauty of a wired structure that sublimates the body. The corset  accessory inspires James because it has a long history and has always been controversial. The corset – a garment with a rigid bodice that incorporates boning and is laced together in order to shape the torso – has a controversial history. Today, corsets are still worn by enthusiasts and as part of fetishistic, cross-dressing and burlesque practices; and while they may no longer be part of the average woman’s everyday routine, they have never truly disappeared from fashion.
